Sound Mountain Tour Mongolia 1997

Peter Marsh had decided to return to Ulaanbaatar so Jeff, Nathalie and Michael were driven from Khovd town across the Jargalant Altai Mountain to, at that time one of the crucibles of Mongolian Khöömii Singing. It was where Michael travelled to in 1993 and was taught by the respected singer Tserendavaa. We set up out tents at his ail and were happy to meet him, his wife and his many children. Jeff and Nathalie had Khöömii lessons, we went to a Chin Gerbul (New family or ger wedding), performed at the Nadaam festival, travelled to Khar Nuur, Black lake and met many wonderfully hospitable Mongolians on the way.

Jeff on Margad’s horse with his Yaks. We searched for the Khöömii singer for ages. When we found him he seemed to be alone with only his horse and Yaks. He lit his pipe with a flint and steel, no matches!
