Heartlands was recorded in April 2016 over three days of intensive, structured improvisation at Hull University’s new studio complex. The pieces were all informed by ideas constellated around the concept of Heartlands & the recent forced migration of so many people. So they are pervaded by emotional & physical ideas of identity, yearning, travelling, loss, refuge & homeland.
